Life as a woman in today’s world can be confusing. Messages like ‘you can have it all… now!’ and ‘you need to have a balanced life!’ set up a tug-of-war in our hearts and minds that leaves us longing for a sense of peace in the midst of the quest to be successful or valuable in the eyes of those around us. In addition, the unique demands of being a physician and the myriad pressures that are embedded within the medical culture add another layer of complexity to the process of cultivating peace and contentment.
At the Center for Women in Medicine, we understand the unique challenges that face women and physicians, and we are committed to providing a place where you can turn down the volume on the noise all around you so that you can hear the sound of your own voice and the longings of your own heart. Whether it’s questions about career, relationships, stress and anxiety, or personal growth and development, the Center provides a confidential place to discuss the questions, decisions and struggles that often simmer just beneath the surface.
Living from the inside out rather than letting external demands and expectations drag us through life requires time and attention. Seedlings do not grow into healthy trees without proper sunlight, fertilizer and pruning. And who would call this process of cultivation and growth selfish? Taking time to tend to your life is perhaps one of the most important things you can do so that you can ultimately give the world the beauty and natural fruitfulness that emerges from a life that is rooted in a solid sense of identity and purpose.
